Rodney and I want to wish all of our clients a Happy and Prosperous New Year! We are very grateful for your continued support of our company and this year we would like to return the favor. We will be featuring some of our clients in 2011 Newsletters so that we can showcase the incredible business community we are a part of here in CT, NY and MA. You may be surprised to learn what is available here in your backyard! If you believe like we do that supporting local businesses is important, keep an eye on this newsletter.

Anyone wishing to have their business showcased here is welcome to contact me at sfl@rklcom.com. Let's grow together and make 2011 a great year!

Letter from the President, Rodney LeBlanc

This year will be our twentieth year in the technology business. As I write this I am thinking, “It can’t be! It went by so quickly!” But in this industry everything goes by so quickly. Every year some new technology comes out and it’s our job to “play” with it first before we release it to our clients. Today almost every aspect of business is run with some form of technology and it is up to us to guide our customers and show them how it will help their business. This is why I love this very unique and fulfilling profession. We service local businesses, non-profits and town governments and help drive their success. When they experience challenges with their technology we are there to keep everything running smoothly. Because we work with very sophisticated and complex technology, this can be a difficult and challenging task. At the same time we are committed to upholding the highest standards of service and want to continue to be at the forefront. Training to maintain these values is multifaceted and time-consuming.

2010 was one of our most challenging years ever after a very tough economic downturn in 2009. Our revenues went down in direct proportion to our clients’ losses. But we recalibrated our direction and succeeded in growing over 35%. We foresee our growth continuing in 2011. One reason is our staff - we have one of the finest teams ever assembled at RKL, and this is very exciting. This year our technical team of 4.5 technicians handled 8,364 support tickets. They performed 5,600 support hours and met or exceeded our service level agreements in response times and client satisfaction with service. As impressive as this seems, we aim to do better and will in 2011.

In the New Year, our goal is to shorten the time between a call coming in and its resolution. RKL has invested heavily in new monitoring and support software and upgraded our own data center. We will be expanding and implementing the newest Cisco VoIP system in house and plan to continue to upgrade our servers to the latest software. Our new website will be more interactive and will bring you more information as you need it.

Here’s to 2011 and the hope that each of our clients will continue to grow and prosper in the New Year. We want to be around for another 20 years and to become the best technology company in the state of Connecticut.

I wish you a prosperous and healthy New Year,

Rodney

New Year’s Resolutions

“The Top 5 Worst High-Tech Habits

To Break In 2011”

Admit it - you have some bad habits when it comes to maintaining the security and “health” of the high-tech tools you dearly depend on. Since it’s a fresh, new year, we thought it would be appropriate to point out the top 5 bad habits you should work on fixing in 2011.

1) Not backing up your data. Funny how most people start their confession of not backing up their data with the words, “I know it’s bad, but…” If you know, then why are you still doing it? There’s absolutely no good reason to let this one continue. Call us and we’ll hook you up with a solid backup plan that will make sure you can be back up and running again FAST.

2) Relying on tape drives to backup your data. This is almost as bad as bad habit #1. Why? Because tape drives have an average failure rate of 100% – and that’s not a typo. It’s not a matter of “if” but “when” is your tape drive going to fail. Opt to upgrade and get a better system in place!

3) Using weak passwords. If you’ve ever used the word “password” as your password, we’re talking to you! A good password should contain a combination of numbers and upper and lower case letters.

4) Not installing the latest security patches and software updates. Once a new patch is released by a software vendor, it acts like a green light for hackers who instantly implement viruses and scams to take advantage of those individuals who don’t regularly update (patch) their system.

5) Printing and storing paper documents for everything. The cost of installing a document imaging (also called document management) solution has come down dramatically, and it is now easier than ever to implement. Plus you get the added benefits of saved storage space, saved time in searching for documents, instant access to any paper file via the Internet, fewer lost files, less chance of losing critical documents to fire, water, or wear and tear, AND a cost saving on paper and ink. With all these benefits, why on earth would you still stick to your Stone Age paper filing system?

Want help in breaking any of these bad habits? Call today and find out how we can help you break these bad high-tech habits for good!
